PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Foster, develop and maintain open lines of communication between students and faculty to develop positive relationships.
Attempt to prevent juvenile delinquency through close contact with students and school personnel.
Counsel with students on appropriate issues as a preventive measure of deviant behavior.
Enforce Federal, State, and Local criminal laws and ordinances and assist school officials with the enforcement of Board of Education policies and administrative regulations regarding student conduct.
Perform typical law enforcement duties such as handling assaults, theft, burglary, bomb threats, weapons, alcohol and drug incidents.
Investigate criminal activity committed on or adjacent to school property.
Assist other law enforcement officers with outside investigations as needed.
Attend, when possible, school activities (i.e., school clubs, athletic events, field trips, dances) and provide a visible and positive image and ensure the peaceful operation of such activities.
Coordinate with the principal/school officials and be responsible for law enforcement and security at extra-curricular events as determined by the principal.
Provide security for special school events or functions.
Work to protect school environment and maintain an atmosphere where teachers and students feel safe to learn.
Help to provide traffic control during the arrival and/or departure of students.
Confer with the principal/school officials to develop plans and strategies to prevent and/or minimize dangerous situations on or near campus or involving students at school-related activities.
Attend meetings of parent and faculty groups to solicit their support and promote an awareness of law enforcement functions as needed.
Help to develop and offer appropriate training for staff, students and parents on legal, drug, safety and/or related issues.
Assist in the development, revision and implementation of district and building-level crisis response plans.
Other duties as assigned by the principal or Superintendent.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Pushing and/or pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling
Running and significant walking
Generally:10% sitting/45% walking/45% standing

High School Graduate or GED
Law Enforcement Academy Graduate
P.O.S.T. Certification
At least 5 years of experience in law enforcement preferred
