OPEN ENROLLMENT FOR RETIREES - October 19 - November 6, 2020

Attached is information concerning open enrollment for retirees for the calendar year 2021.  If you do not make an election, your current coverage will roll over into 2021.

If you are already retired and are turning 65, you must convert to one of State Health Benefit Plan Medicare Advantage Plans.  If you are already retired and a covered spouse is turning 65 but you are not, you will need to have the spouse convert to a Medicare Advantage Plan and you will remain on your current plan.  If you need additional information concerning Medicare Advantage Plans, contact Sheilah Johnson.

If you are planning to retire soon, you will need to determine which retiree health insurance rate structure you will be subject to.  The "Old Policy" which applies to employees hired prior on or before 1/1/07 (Annuitant Basic Subsidy Policy) and the "New Policy" which applies to employees hired after 1/1/07 (Annuitant Years of Service Subsidy Policy).

If you are subject to the "Old Policy" rates and are under 65 years of age, refer to the rate sheet attached.

If you are subject to the "Old Policy" rates and are 65 years of age or older with a Medicare Advantage Plan, use the table provided at https://shbp.georgia.gov/member-rates/retiree-rates/annuitant-basic-subsidy-rates.  Click on the "2021 Annuitant Basic Subsidy Age 65 or Older with Medicare Advantage (Part B submitted to SHBP)" tab.

For specific "New Policy" rates, use the table provided at https://shbp.georgia.gov/member-rates/retiree-rates/annuitant-years-service-subsidy-rates.  If you are under 65 years of age, click on the "2021 YOS Non-Medicare Subsidy Retiree Rate Calculator" tab.  If you are 65 or older, click on the "2021 YOS Medicare Advantage Retiree Rate Calculator" tab.    With either rate calculator, you will have to enter your total years of service to determine the appropriate cost per month.

Documents are provided to enable you to make decisions regarding open enrollment.  However, if you have questions or need assistance, contact Sheilah Johnson at 706-986-4048 or by email at [email protected].
