Due to increases in positive COVID-19 cases among students and staff, a significant number of students and staff in quarantine, and a concerning number of students sent home ill today, the McDuffie County School System has made the decision to close Thomson-McDuffie Middle School through August 29.
The school will reopen on Monday, August 30. All students will transition to at-home learning during this temporary closure.
Instructional Plans & Materials
Teachers will be teaching live during the school day via Google Classroom beginning tomorrow, August 29. Any questions regarding your student’s assignments should be emailed to your child’s teacher.
Students who have returned the Technology Checkout Permission Form distributed earlier will bring devices home today. An additional One Call will be made by Mr. Joiner announcing times for pick up of technology for remaining students tomorrow.
Meals will continue to be offered on a grab-and-go basis at Thomson-McDuffie Middle School. Breakfast is available for pick-up from 7:15 – 8:15 a.m. and lunch from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
After School Activities
All after school activities, athletic practices, and competitions are suspended during the closure.
Return to School
The district will continue to monitor public health as well as student and staff attendance data with a plan for face-to-face students to return to campus on August 30.
Please be sure to review the symptom checklist prior to sending your student to school each day. We encourage parents not to send children to school if they are displaying any of the symptoms on the checklist.
The district sincerely appreciates the patience and understanding of its families as we strive to keep our students, staff, and community safe.
