In compliance with the Georgia Records Act, the McDuffie County Board of Education records retention schedule, and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) regulations on destruction of data collected, maintained or used in the provision of a free and appropriate public education of students with disabilities in the McDuffie County School System, the Department of Student Services announces its intention to destroy special education records and gifted education records during the month of October 2021.
Records on students who were enrolled in a special education and/or gifted program in McDuffie County School System and who were born before September 1, 1998, and will be 23 years of age as of September 1, 2021, are no longer needed for educational purposes.
The student or parent may need these records for Social Security or other reasons. If you are a former special education student or gifted student or parent of a former special education student or gifted student and you wish to obtain these records prior to destruction, you should contact the McDuffie County Board of Education's Department of Student Services, at phone number 706-986-4100 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Positive identification will be required before records can be released to the individual.
