Board of Education has Busy Planning Session

The McDuffie County Board of Education had a busy planning session on January 17 to kick off the new year. Judge Valerie Burley was on hand to swear in newly-elected members, and the board selected a new vice chair to fill the seat of the term-limited Jarvis McNair.

               District Three voters elected Angela Miller-Hudgeon last year to fill Mr. McNair’s seat, and Susan Benning-Tutt was elected to a second term representing District One. To begin the meeting, Judge Burley swore in both members. The board then voted to continue with Andy Knox as its chair and selected Ms. Benning-Tutt to serve as vice chair.

               After the vote, Dr. Mychele Rhodes recognized the Superintendent's Student of the Month for January at each of the district’s schools:

• Dearing Elementary School - Dylan Wise
• Maxwell Elementary School - Logan Phillips
• Thomson Elementary School - Tristan Whitaker
• Norris Elementary School - Hayden Phillips
• Thomson-McDuffie Middle School - Ja'Nae Gant
• Thomson High School - Roydarius Hobbs
  

The board also approved its meeting schedule for the remainder of the year. Those dates are listed in the table below:
