Thomas Named Teacher of the Year

Dottie Thomas was named 2025 McDuffie County Teacher of the Year during a ceremony at the Thomson High School auditorium on October 26. Mrs. Thomas graduated from Thomson High in 2004 and and taught elsewhere for 11 years before returning home. This is her fifth year teaching honors geometry, advanced algebra, and precalculus at THS.

The sign on her door reflects her motto: “What I love most about my classroom is who I share it with.” Her dedication to high standards while radiating positivity helped her stand out as an example to others.

“I think we have a really dynamic bunch of students in McDuffie County, so they make coming to work every day fun, exciting, and certainly interesting,” Mrs. Thomas said. “I had a lot of pride as a student here, and that has really just continued on now as a teacher.”

Mrs. Thomas will will now move on to represent McDuffie County in the Georgia Teacher of the Year program.
