Notice Ed-Flex Program McDuffie County Schools-

New for the 2024-2025 school year, the state of Georgia is allowing school districts to submit waivers under the Ed-Flex Program. Through Ed-Flex, The U.S. Department of Education (Secretary) delegates to eligible State Education Agencies (SEAs) the authority to waive certain statutory or regulatory education requirements that may impede local efforts to reform and improve education. Ed-Flex is designed to help Local Education Agencies (LEAs), or school districts, carry out educational reforms and raise the achievement of all students. Ed-Flex is authorized under the Education Flexibility Partnership Act of 1999 and was reauthorized under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) in 2015. The Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) met the eligibility criteria as a SEA and is offering its school districts to apply for waivers over a five-year period. LEAs must apply to GaDOE annually for the desired waivers. Participating school districts will have to report annually on the effect of any state approved waivers.  For the 2024-2025 school year, we are pursuing the following waiver from the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE):

  • Waiver of Title IV, Part A Content Area Minimum Percentage Spending Requirements –ESSA Section 4106(e)(2)(C), (D) and (E) under sections 4107, 4108, 4109
      • 20% - well rounded students
      • 20% - safe and healthy environment
      • effective use of technology
    • If approved, this waiver would allow the McDuffie County School System flexibility to expend the program funds based on the needs of our students.
If you have any comments/feedback pertaining to this waiver, please contact Dr. Lynn Cato, Director of Curriculum & Instruction, at [email protected] by June 20, 2024.
