New Principals Named at Maxwell Elementary and Thomson-McDuffie Middle

The McDuffie County Board of Education approved new principals at Maxwell Elementary School and Thomson-McDuffie Middle School during the May 21, 2026, meeting. Both administrators will begin their roles on July 1.

Dr. James Meneguzzo will serve as principal of Maxwell Elementary next school year. He has 28 years of experience with 17 years as a school administrator. His experience includes mathematics, business education and school leadership. Dr. Meneguzzo served as the leader of the Newton County Elementary/Middle Theme School, which was recognized as a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence.

“I am super excited and super blessed to be named the new principal at Maxwell Elementary School,” Dr. Meneguzzo said. “I’ve been fortunate to meet a lot of great people so far in the McDuffie County School System, and I can’t wait to work with these people, continue to meet the rest of the staff, and everyone else in McDuffie County. I’m so looking forward to July 1, getting the new year started, and looking forward to a wonderful year.”

The board approved a familiar face to take the helm at Thomson-McDuffie Middle. Brock Hawkins, current assistant principal at TMMS, will step into the principal role for the next school year. He has 13 years of experience in the district which includes teaching and coaching at TMMS prior to moving into administration. His background includes special education, physical education, and school leadership.

“I was very thankful to be chosen to be the next principal at Thomson-McDuffie Middle School,” Hawkins said. “I’m honored to have the privilege to lead the next generation at the school. It’s also an honor to be the principal of a school I once attended. I’m thankful for everyone that helped get me to this place and prepared me for this. I’m looking forward to working with everyone, and I’m looking forward to pushing our kids in this county to continue to achieve and be prepared for the high school.”

Superintendent Dr. Mychele Rhodes spoke highly of both new principals following the May 21 meeting.

“I am pleased to welcome these two veteran administrators into leadership roles in McDuffie County,” said Dr. Rhodes. “Both of these educators have the experience and knowledge necessary to lead our schools with enthusiasm, determination, and commitment. I am excited for the future opportunities they will bring to our students.”
