Inclement Weather

HOW WILL I KNOW IF SCHOOLS ARE CLOSED?

When inclement weather is imminent, information can be found at:

  • Facebook - McDuffie County School System
  • Twitter - McDuffie Co Schools
  • Local TV and radio stations

Early morning weather conditions created by floods, severe ice, snowstorms, extreme wind chill factors and other weather-related emergencies sometimes make it necessary to close schools. In some instances, weather and street conditions improve later in the morning so that schools can be opened later than normal.

The decision to close school or delay school time rests with the Superintendent of Schools after close coordination with the Director of Transportation. During inclement weather, our facilities and transportation supervisory personnel inspect the streets and communicate with McDuffie County's Emergency Services. The Superintendent's Office is in constant communication with appropriate emergency personnel and receives updated weather and road condition reports in our area. Factors that are considered when making the decision to close schools include weather, roads, buildings and buses.

The safety of all McDuffie County students is our primary concern in the event of inclement weather.
