Safety and Emergency Preparedness

The safety of our students, faculty, and staff is very valuable to the McDuffie County School System. All departments participate in coordinating emergency plans and procedures to ensure the safety of those in our school system and community. Each school and department in the school system has an emergency response team. We continuously research and develop strategies to prepare for natural disasters, bomb threats, school shootings, and terrorist attacks.

We have a number of drills to address safety. They are: fire drills, evacuation drills, lock down drills, and severe weather awareness drills. Many emergencies that occur at schools are health related. All schools in McDuffie County are prepared to handle these types of emergencies. Each school has a nurse on staff to extend care to those in need. At least one AED (automated external defibrillator) machine is located at each school to administer care to victims of sudden cardiac arrest. Employees in the school system have attended meetings and trainings to be more knowledgeable on how to respond to injuries and sudden illnesses. We have many employees in the school system who are CPR certified.
